DIY Children’s Spice Shakers

kid play spices

I go through quite a bit of spice jars in my kitchen. Chili powder being the number one. This is a fun way to upcycle those old spice jars (plastic and metal variety – no glass) into a fun item for a child’s play kitchen. I add items that are larger than the shaker holes, like pom poms, sequins, beads. Then I glue the lid shut so little fingers can’t get to it and eat/make a mess of it. But I make sure the “shaker” lid opens for pretend play. You can label the bottles with fun names, like “Rainbow Sprinkle” “Awesome Sauce” “Unicorn Dust.”
